The intruder, identified as Gregory McCalium, confronted Corti while carrying a six-inch knife. But the elderly homeowner was far from defenseless.<\/p>\n
Corti had spent part of his younger years boxing while serving with the Royal Engineers in the British Army. He was also a former boxing champion, giving him experience that would prove crucial during the terrifying confrontation.<\/p>\n
As McCalium allegedly attempted to stab him several times, Corti managed to evade the attacks. He then struck back with a powerful right hand followed by a quick jab, sending the much younger intruder crashing to the floor.<\/p>\n
Corti did not stop there. The retired boxer restrained McCalium and kept him under control until police arrived at the property.<\/p>\n
Prosecutors later described the burglar’s injuries as so serious that he appeared to have been involved in a car accident.<\/p>\n
The case eventually ended in court, where McCalium was sentenced to four and a half years in prison. During sentencing, the judge reportedly told him that he had \u201cgot what he deserved.\u201d<\/p>\n
