But for German model Theresia Fischer, changing her appearance meant something far more drastic.<\/p>\n
At 24, Fischer underwent an extraordinary leg-lengthening procedure that eventually increased her height by around 5.5 inches. The process involved breaking the bones in her lower legs and gradually lengthening them using telescopic devices.<\/p>\n
The procedure reportedly cost around $165,000.<\/p>\n
At first, Fischer believed the transformation would help her become more confident and finally feel comfortable with her appearance.<\/p>\n
Years later, however, she has spoken publicly about the emotional consequences of the decision and the influence her former partner had on her at the time.<\/p>\n
Her story is not simply about wanting to become taller.<\/p>\n
It is about what can happen when someone begins believing that they need to change themselves to be worthy of love.<\/p>\n
Before the operation, Fischer stood around 5 feet 6 inches tall.<\/p>\n
By conventional standards, there was nothing unusual about her height. She was already pursuing a career in modeling and had built a life around her appearance and personality.<\/p>\n
But according to Fischer, her relationship at the time gradually changed the way she viewed herself.<\/p>\n
She has said that her former boyfriend repeatedly encouraged her to undergo leg-lengthening surgery because he preferred taller women.<\/p>\n
In interviews, Fischer recalled comments suggesting that she could become significantly taller if she underwent the procedure.<\/p>\n
At first, such remarks may have sounded like a preference.<\/p>\n
But Fischer says the repeated comments eventually affected her confidence.<\/p>\n
She has described being told that she could not accomplish things without her partner and that she needed him.<\/p>\n
