Myiasis is a pathological condition where fly larvae (maggots) infest and develop in the living or necrotic tissues of humans or animals. The larvae feed on necrotic tissue, body fluids, or sometimes even live tissue.
Diagnosis is usually made by observing moving larvae inside the wound, accompanied by swelling, pain, redness, and discharge. In furuncular myiasis (under the skin), a breathing hole may be seen.
